Snowball Time Penguin

Folk Art Paints:
Licorice
Autumn Leaves
Wicker White
School Bus Yellow
Brilliant Ultramarine
Supplies:

Floating Medium
White PomPoms (I used an iridescent kind)
Egg Gourd E6000 Glue or Glue Gun
White or Black Feather or Down (I used white)
Black Sculpy Clay
Small wooden heart
Iridescent Confetti

Surface preparation:
Base coat egg gourd with Wicker White; let dry. Recoat as needed. Basecoat heart with Autumn Leaves; let dry.

Sculpy Hand: Shape your sculpy in a elongated flat triangle and then curve the tip so the "snowball" will fit. Bake according to instructions.
Painting Instructions:
Once everything is dry and prepped we will do the black on the body. I used a #12 flat and loaded up with Licorice and painted the black of the body see picture below. Don't forget the arm on one side, only do one side! **The reason I put on the feet is so it would sit better for pictures, you should wait till the end!*** Then sideload the loaded brush (should be black) with a bit of Wicker white and go over the top of the wings to highlight them. Use Floating Medium if needed

Face: Using a Liner or small flat loaded with Autumn Leaves paint the diamond (rhombus) nose in the center of the face area line the top point with the point on the top of the face. This way you can place your eyes in the correct place. Once this is dry, you may have to recoat, sideload and highlight with School Bus Yellow on the sides of the beak. Load the liner with inky Licorice and paint on eyes I like the teardrop shape but you can do your favorite eye shape too. Then paint on the smile, nose holes and eyebrows. and outline the left side of the beak. I then took some inky ultramarine and put in the color of the eyes, then put in the white highlights.
Sculpy Hand: Shape your sculpy in a elongated flat triangle and then curve the tip so the "snowball" will fit. Bake according to instructions. Once cool you can paint with Licorice so it matches. (I actually used orange since that was what I had on hand, so you can use any color you may have.)

Body Construction: Glue on the feet; let dry. Take a feather and cut it in a V shape so don't worry about it looking weird right now, when you pinch it together it will look fine, now you can glue the feather on. I personally like to use the base of the feather because it is more "whispy" looking. Glue a pompom to the sculpy hand. Okay, now for this step I really recommend using the E6000. Place a bit of glue on the sculpy and on the place you are going to put the wing. Let sit for a minute and then press it together wiping off excess glue. Lay the gourd down so the wing will sit and dry (make sure it doesn't slide down). Let dry. When the glue is dry usually around 24 hours or so. You can glue the confetti and pompoms on the base. This covers the glue on the base where the gourd and feet meet and looks cute too!

I really hope you enjoy painting this project it is a Very easy one but is really cute. I think the feather really gives him character.
